DATUK Jamal Abdillah is honoured to be one of the performers at the 'Blue Serenade Charity Dinner Live with PDRM Orchestra' concert.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), in collaboration with the Melaka government, will present the dinner concert at the Melaka International Trade Centre on Dec 28.
Jamal, the 65-year-old artiste dubbed Malaysia's King of Pop, said he was honoured and grateful to PDRM for this collaboration.
"This will mark my biggest collaboration with the force and its 75-member orchestra.
"I will be singing five songs and a few others in a medley at the concert."
He said popular rock guitarist Joe Branko would be performing in the concert too.
To give his best during the show, the legendary singer said he was busy rehearsing in the studio with the orchestra.
Jamal said this at a press conference at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur, recently.
PDRM management department director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said the concert, which coincided with Visit Melaka Year 2024, aimed to strengthen the relationship between police officers and the community, and raise funds to support the department's welfare and operational needs.
CONCERT TO STRENGTHEN TIES WITH PUBLIC, RAISE FUNDS
"The goal of this event is not only to promote a positive relationship between the police force and the public, but also to raise funds for the police management department's club to upgrade our facilities."
He said the event would also provide aid to officers affected by disasters, particularly those in the management department who suffered losses due to the recent floods, with many having sustained damage to their homes and requiring repairs.
He hoped that corporate bodies, private entities and non-governmental organisations would help them to raise funds through this event.
On the concert, Azmi said the special showcase would feature two other hugely popular singers, namely Ella and Ziana Zain.
Adding to the merriment of the show will be comedian Douglas Lim, who will serve as its host for the evening.
Azmi said the event would be attended by prominent figures, including Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
Apart from the evening concert, other activities are also lined up at the location the same day.
"While the concert will begin at 8pm, earlier in the day, we will host a community carnival featuring exhibition booths, sales, traffic fine discount counters and a meet-and-greet session with PDRM officers," Azmi said.
On the sales target for the concert, he said the primary goal was not a big target, but to focus on the charitable cause.
