#SHOWBIZ: Classic storybook tales to thrill kids

KUALA LUMPUR: Two delightful stage productions featuring four beloved children's classics are set to enchant audiences at the Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre (PJPAC) on Dec 11.

These theatre performances by The Story Book Academy highlight the talents of young children, some as young as four years old, in a celebration of creativity and storytelling.

The morning session opens with a double feature of Shrek and The Snow Queen, starring children aged 4 to 7.

Five-year-old Thomas leads as Shrek, supported by 9-year-old Nouman as Donkey.

In The Snow Queen, Agnes (5) plays Gerda, while 7-year-old Kara takes on the title role.

Adding to the magic, 11-year-old Diyara performs as narrator and singer, delivering the heartfelt A Million Dreams.

The afternoon segment at 2.30pm brings The Velveteen Rabbit and A Christmas Carol to life.

Taika and Wei Yen, both 5, will portray the Boy and the Velveteen Rabbit.

Meanwhile, 8-year-old Ayaana embraces the challenging role of Scrooge, with 10-year-old Angelina narrating the timeless holiday tale.

These child-led performances are aimed at fostering confidence, creativity, and a love for storytelling among the participants.

Since its founding in September 2020, The Story Book Academy director Jeanisha Wan has nurtured talent through acting and roleplay classes, selecting students through auditions.

Adding a meaningful layer to the event, Myanmar teenagers from The Peace Education Centre will assist behind the scenes.

This initiative offers them valuable exposure to the arts, hands-on experience, and a source of income.
