KUALA LUMPUR: The Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation will showcase the charm and creativity of Hong Kong cinema to audiences in Malaysia this month.
There will also be an exhibition, titled From Idea To Icon: Crafting the Hong Kong Cinema, to provide film fans with an insight into the world of Hong Kong films.
The Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation will feature the screening of seven movies from Sept 20-29 at GSC The Starling Mall in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
These movies are Ricky Ko's Out of the Shadow, Chow Kam Wing's For Alice, Ho Miu Ki's Love Lies, Andy Lo's Once in a Blue Moon, Sunny Lau's One Night at School, Kwan Man Hin's The Remnant and Dickson Leung's YUM Investigation.
Tickets are priced at RM5 and the movies are in Cantonese with Chinese and English subtitles.
Four Hong Kong directors and actors have also been invited to attend the event in Malaysia, including actress Kay Tse from Out of the Shadow, director Kwan Man Hin, and actor Ling Man Lung from The
Remnant and director Dickson Leung from YUM Investigation.
The opening ceremony of the event will take place on Sept 19 at GSC The Starling Mall, where the opening film Out of the Shadow will be screened.
The film exhibition segment will run from Sept 21 to Oct 3 (12pm-9pm) at GSC The Starling Mall and is open to the public for free.
This exhibition adopts a new concept to present the filmmaking process, unveiling important steps from script creation to post-production, and shares with the public how filmmakers invest their heart and soul into making a good film.
Organised by the Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA), financially supported by the Cultural and
Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDAHK) and the Film Development Fund (FDF), the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation has toured many Asian cities since 2021, including Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Phnom Penh.
The event also provides a platform for Hong Kong filmmakers to engage with the Asian film industry and foster closer collaborations.
