#SHOWBIZ: Jebat relieved five-year Jins Shamsuddin land dispute finally over

KUALA LUMPUR: The son of the late Tan Sri Jins Shamsuddin, Putera Hang Jebat, is relieved that both the High Court and Court of Appeal had rejected the file claimed by his elder half-brothers Jeffry and Hang Tuah.

Speaking to reporters here earlier today, Jebat, 37, said that after five years, the verdicts delivered by the judges had proven that all the allegations against him were untrue.

On Jan 5, 2023, the High Court rejected claims made by his brothers, with the cost of RM8,000 to be paid by each of them to the three defendants.

On Aug 13, the Court of Appeal rejected the appeal by Jeffry and Tuah, with the cost of RM10,000 to be paid by each of them to the three respondents.

"I'm relieved now. For the last five years, people had this negative perception towards us (brother Putera Hang Nadim and mother Puan Sri Halijah Abdullah) due to the works of certain individuals who had accused us of being greedy.

"As the case was ongoing, I had done my best not to respond to any of those claims circulating on the internet," said Jebat.

He added that the worst hit by those unfounded claims had been his mother.

Previously, Jebat was brought to court by his brothers, claiming that he had forged a signature on a document.

Jebat disclosed that his late father had gifted the land to him while he was still healthy and of sound mind, witnessed by an assistant district officer.

At the press conference, his legal counsel Amirfarid Nawawi added that the land, gifted to Jebat and sold while the late actor was still alive and healthy, could not be counted as part of the inheritance property to be divided among Jins' heirs following the fara'id law.

"The money received from the sale of that property had been used for my father's medical bills and other expenses incurred in our efforts to make him comfortable after he retired," explained Jebat.

He added that while they had to settle the dispute for this particular case of property, there were still many other properties in his father's name.

"If I were indeed greedy, why would I only fake the signature for that single property? I could have forged his signature for all of the inheritance, couldn't I?"

Jebat said that since this is over, they would now be able to proceed with the fara'id process to distribute the inheritance.

Jins passed away on March 1, 2017, following breathing difficulties after he choked on a sweet delicacy in his home.

He is survived by his widow Halijah and their two sons, Jebat and Nadim.

Jins' eldest son, Jefrry, is from his marriage to actress Rahmah Rahmat, while his second issue is Tuah, from his union with Jamilah Shukor.
