KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Sarah Suhairi is now married to a man she has been a friend with since they first met at an equestrian club four years ago.
In a Harian Metro report today, the 23-year-old artiste tied the knot with Aswad Anuar, 39, a lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, at a ceremony held in Hulu Langat, Selangor last Friday.
Although they have been friends for four years and got engaged on Jan 27 earlier this year, not many except for close friends and family members were privy to their relationship.
The report quoted Sarah, who won the 'Big Stage' reality TV competition in 2018, as saying she had neither tried to hide their relationship nor felt the need to announce it all and sundry.
"I have never been comfortable with sharing details of my private life with the public and I didn't want to jump the gun until we were legally husband and wife.
"Now that we're married, it's time for me to share this good news with everyone," she said in the report.
Sarah added that she first met with Aswad at an equestrian club and they also share a group of mutual friends.
"So that's how it all began."
Sarah also said she had no issues marrying someone much older or that Aswad is a single father with three daughters, aged 14, 10, and eight.
Aswad was previously married between 2008 and 2019.
"I've met the girls before, and they seem all right to having me as a stepmother.
"They called me Auntie Sarah, but who knows if they might address me as 'mother' after this," she said.
