KUALA LUMPUR: "When we first met, the first thing she said to me was that I sounded like Whitney Houston singing in Malay," said Datuk Wan Aishah Wan Ariffin of her first encounter with the late Datuk Sharifah Aini.
"I grew up listening to her songs and she was my idol.
"So naturally I was star-struck then, when she complimented me and my song 'Janji Manismu'," said Aishah, 59, when met at a press conference earlier today.
The launch event was for her latest single, 'Di Pinggir Kayangan', which was a song once popularised by the late National Songbird.
"I have always admired her voice and this love song exudes a positive and happy spirit with a melodious Malay tune.
"That's why I chose to do this," she said.
The re-recorded classic song will be released by Sony Music Malaysia on all digital platforms tomorrow.
