KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia ended morning trading session a mix despite the positive performance by the benchmark index.
At 12.30pm, FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI closed 0.07 per cent or 1.09 points higher at 1,595.38 versus Friday's close of 1,594.29.
Laggards outnumbered gainers in the broader market 518 to 428 while 443 counters were unchanged.
FBM100 added 0.05 per cent to 11,829.17 and FBM Emas rose 0.07 per cent to 12,139.67. FBM Ace dropped 0.41 per cent to 5,110.57.
Maybank Investment Bank Bhd said the plantation sector showed continued strength as crude palm oil futures recorded its largest weekly increase this year.
"The industrial sector also performed well, likely driven by a surge in Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd, which hit a one-month high following stronger-than-expected third-quarter results, supported by higher aluminium prices.
"Looking ahead, the key event to watch this week is the US Non-Farm Payroll report," it said in a note.
Press Metal was among the top gainers, adding 26 sen to RM4.90. Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd rose 62 sen to RM21.48 and United Plantations Bhd gained 60 sen to RM30.90.
Top losers included RHB Bank Bhd which lost 18 sen to RM6.58, Tenaga Nasional Bhd tumbled 18 sen to RM13.48 and Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd dropped 32 sen to RM17.88.
