DNex, Google Cloud to provide next-gen cloud services in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Dagang NeXchange Bhd (DNeX) has entered into a multi-year agreement with Google Cloud to provide next-generation sovereign cloud services in Malaysia.

According to a filing with the stock exchange, the agreement enables DNex to resell Google's cloud solutions, including Google Cloud Platform (Public Cloud), Google Distributed Cloud – Edge (Connected), and Google Distributed Cloud – Air-gapped (Disconnected).

Additionally, it grants access to various advanced technologies from Google, such as artificial intelligence (AI), Big Data & Analytics, and more.

"It empowers DNeX to offer higher-value solutions and services, further enhancing its market competitiveness.

"It aims at expanding DNeX's services offerings in its IT business segment to offer hosting services, thereby meeting the growing demand for in-country data centre and cloud infrastructure in Malaysia, and aligned with its focus on securing large-scale IT and digitalisation projects across the public and private sectors," it said.

Its executive chairman Tan Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir Jamalullail said the solution will unlock possibilities for secure and transformative innovation, such as the use of AI and advanced analytics in delivering services.

"This will also expand DNeX's services offerings in our IT bus lines segment to include hosting services, thereby meeting the growing demand for cloud infrastructure within Malaysia and aligning with our focus on securing large-scale digitisation projects across the public and private sectors," he added.

Malaysia's public sector and regulated industries require cloud capabilities that guarantee digital sovereignty while adhering to stringent regulatory standards, Google Cloud vice president Asia Pacific Karan Bajwa said.

"We're pleased to be addressing this need by partnering with DNeX to deliver GDC air-gapped for local organisations," he added.

DNeX also signed a three-year memorandum of understanding with Google Asia Pacific Pte Ltd to collaborate on exploring how Google Cloud's services and products can enhance DNeX's AI capabilities and technology framework in Malaysia.

"The entry into the MoU forms a basis of commitment by the parties for the collaboration and support in initiatives by creating a mutual understanding of the strategy and business needs," it added.
