Digital Ministry to reveal details of National AI office next week - Gobind

KUALA LUMPUR: The full details regarding the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Office will be provided at a press conference next week with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

"A dedicated team will be available to explain how the AI office will be structured, its location, funding, and other relevant details," he said at MDEC's Malaysia Digital Tech Adoption Summit: AI press conference.

On Sept 5, Gobind said the National AI Office, overseen by MyDigital Corporation, is expected to start operations in November 2024.

He also mentioned that the Cabinet had approved the proposal to establish the office in a meeting held two weeks prior.

One of the key objectives of the National AI Office will be to develop an ecosystem that positions Malaysia as a regional hub for AI.

On another note, Gobind is advocating for the government to provide greater incentives in Budget 2025 to encourage micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt technology and artificial intelligence.

"Technology evolves rapidly, and in a short time, businesses have been able to enhance their operations through its use."We need to ensure that no one is left behind. We don't want a situation where one business advances due to AI usage, knowledge, and access to technology, while others lack that knowledge," he said.

Gobind added that the government must take action to ensure that not only does the public gain knowledge about current technology and how it benefits their industries, but also that this information is effectively communicated to the broader population.
