KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin has pledged full cooperation with authorities following a police report filed against him by former National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Shapawi Ismail.
The report comes in the wake of Shahriman's own complaint lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on alleged discrepancies involving Shapawi, a day before the Malaysia Paralympic Council (MPC) annual general meeting (AGM)-cum-elections on Dec 15
.This sequence of events has sparked speculation about the motives behind the police report against Shahriman.
Speaking at a press conference, Shahriman, who was re-elected as MPC president for the 2025-2028 term, said: "I am aware of the police report and the media coverage surrounding it. My report to the MACC is clear, and I am fully prepared to cooperate, even if this matter escalates.
"I trust the authorities to handle the case transparently and fairly."
Shahriman declined to reveal details of his MACC report but reiterated his commitment to assisting the authorities.
Addressing allegations of irregularities, Shahriman maintained that the MPC elections were conducted according to established procedures.
"All nominations were accepted, and the election process was transparent and democratic.
"If anyone wishes to challenge the results, they are free to do so through the appropriate channels."
He added: "For those who lost at the elections, it is their right to voice concerns or lodge reports. However, the platform to contest is during the elections, not after.
"I am here to serve and ensure the growth of sports in Malaysia. I hope others will focus on this shared goal."
Shahriman assured that he would provide all necessary documents and evidence to support investigations.
"Let the MACC and relevant authorities decide based on the facts. My role is not to dictate the process but to ensure it is carried out fairly."
According to Bernama, Shapawi lodged a police report against Shahriman, claiming the latter's allegations of corruption ahead of the MPC elections had tarnished his image and credibility.
The BA of Malaysia (BAM) also refuted Shahriman's claims that the association accepted bribes to nominate Shapawi for the MPC top post last month.
