KUALA LUMPUR: Track queen Shereen Samson Vallabouy's main goal next year is to qualify for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo from Sept 13-21.
The Asian Games 400m bronze medallist needs to clock 50.75 seconds to beat the qualifying mark. Shereen, 26, holds the national record of 51.79s in the quarter-mile event.
If she fails to meet the qualifying time, the Perak athlete can still qualify for Tokyo by getting ranked among the top 48 in the world by next August.
Malaysian Athletics Federation technical director John Ballard said Shereen returned to Malaysia from the United States last month to get a visa to continue training under Derrick White in Florida.
"Currently Shereen is training with me at Bukit Jalil. I'm following the training programmes given to me by coach Derrick. She is expected to return to Florida in the middle of January.
"The qualifying for the world meet is from Aug 1, 2024 to Aug 24, 2025. Shereen is putting a lot of hard work in training to fulfil her dream."
