Best-of-three format could revive Malaysian hopes in M6 World Championship, says analyst

PUTRAJAYA: The best-of-three format which will be used in the fourth round of the Swiss stage at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) M6 World Championship tomorrow (Dec 4) will better suit Malaysian teams.

That is the view of analyst Putra Ammar Qayyim Zulaadi, better known by his nickname Mars.

Malaysian sides Team Vamos and Selangor Red Giants (SRG) both face do-or-die missions in the fourth round at the IOI Grand Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Vamos will take on Turkiye's S2G while SRG will face-off against China's KeepBest Gaming.

Ammar said the truncated best-of-one format used in the first three rounds of the Swiss stage has caused a lot of teams to struggle.

"Teams from Indonesia and the Philippines have also struggled with this format," said Ammar today, who is also a caster.

"Aurora and Team Liquid ID are the best example of this, they will now face each other and the loser will bow out early.

"But what I like about the Swiss stage is that just when it moves into an elimination round, the format changes to best-of-three.

"This (best-of-three) will help the Malaysian teams (perform better) as they are more used to this longer format."

Ammar, however, stressed that players from both Malaysian teams need to be well prepared, not only mentally and physically, but also spiritually.

"They need to look at the relationships in the team, relationships between the players and coaches, management and even their parents," added Ammar.

"If there is any friction in these relationships, it needs to be fixed before they get on the main stage.

"These small things can come up during the match can lead to mental lapses, poor teamwork and poor decision making."
