KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Ainaa Amani-Addeen Idakie overcame a first-game blemish to upset favourites and compatriots Rachel Arnold-Ong Sai Hung to reach the mixed doubles semi-finals of Asian Squash Doubles Championships at Arena Mas in Skudai, Johor, on Friday.
Ainaa-Addeen won 10-11, 11-10, 11-5 and will face Hong Kong's Tong Tsz Wing-Tang Ming Hong for a place in the final on Saturday.
Malaysia's Aira Azman-Syafiq Kamal were shown the door in the quarter-finals, losing 11-9, 11-6 to India's Joshna Chinappa-Abhay Singh.
Ainaa has also qualified for the women's doubles semi-finals with Chan Yiwen.
The Malaysian pair defeated India's Rathika Suthanthria Seelan-Pooja Arthi Raghu 11-6, 11-2 and will take on Hong Kong's Toby Tse- Kristie Wong in the semi-finals.
Ainaa is delighted to qualify for two semi-finals.
"Following the win over Rachel-Sai Hung, Addeen and I are hungry for more upsets in the tournament," said Ainaa.
"I am confident we can beat Tsz Wing-Ming Hong and reach the final."
However, Ainaa pointed out that it would be challenging for her to play in two semi-finals on Thursday.
"I will play in the women's semi-finals at 4pm, followed by the mixed doubles match at 5.30pm. I hope I can sustain the pace of playing two back-to-back semi-finals."
Meanwhile, Aira Azman-Aifa Azman also reached the women's doubles semi-finals following an 11-7, 11-9 win over Hong Kong's Tse Yee Lam-Wong Po Yui.
They will face another Hong Kong pair, Ho Tze Lok-Fung Ching Hei, for a place in the final.
In the men's doubles, Sai Hung-Syafiq sealed their semi-final spot after beating Japan's Tomotaka Endo-Naoki Hayashi 11-7, 11-8 in a Group B match.
Compatriots Hafiz Zhafri-Duncan Lee must beat Hong Kong's Lau Tsz Kwan-Chung Yat Long in a Group B match on Saturday to reach the semi-finals after losing 11-3, 11-9 to India's Abhay Singh-Velavan Senthilkumar.
