KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor FC have taken immediate action by reassigning the team official who allegedly verbally abused journalists after Saturday's Super League match against Police at Selayang Stadium.
The official will no longer be involved in any on-field or stadium duties, focusing instead on behind-the-scenes responsibilities. This move ensures that the official will not be present during Selangor matches.
Selangor technical committee chairman Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar confirmed the decision, stressing the importance of preventing such incidents to safeguard the image of the Red Giants.
"I have instructed for the official to be reassigned, and I apologise to the media for what happened.
"The management has discussed this matter and will ensure the official is no longer present on the field or in the stadium," said Shahril.
The incident involved four media representatives who filed official complaints with the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM) after an unsettling encounter with a Selangor FC official.
These journalists claimed that the official used insulting language and pressured them to delete certain photos, allegedly jeopardising Selangor FC's reputation.
The journalists reportedly couldn't leave the stadium due to fan provocations, further escalating the situation.
The Malaysian Football League (MFL) and SAM issued statements today condemning the incident, while Selangor FC CEO Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon apologised to Timesport.
MFL is awaiting reports from the match commissioner, general coordinator, media officer, security officer, Selangor FC officials and the police regarding the incident.
