KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor are always on the lookout for players to strengthen their squad, but don't expect them to break the bank for a new signing.
The Klang Valley outfit have just released their young Jordanian forward, Reziq Banihani, to join Jordanian Pro League side Al-Hussein SC for an undisclosed figure.
The M-League transfer window, which opened on Aug 26, will close on Sept 22, but the Red Giants' technical committee chairman, Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, said they are in no hurry to sign new players.
He pointed out that the team are shaping up well with the return of Faisal Halim from a horrific acid attack apart from the blossoming partnership between Jordanian forward Ali Olwan and Chilean hitman Ronnie Fernandez.
"I think we need to strengthen the strike force, but that doesn't mean we can be reckless with our spending. We have good options in the team despite the departure of Reziq," said Shahril.
"We received a good offer for Reziq. He's a good player, and we cannot stop a player leaving for better offers. We signed him when Faisal and Mukhairi Ajmal were injured, and we needed more options.
"We now have Faisal making a rapid return to the team, and we also have signed Ali (Olwan), who seems to click well with Ronnie. Previously, Ronnie was scoring but was isolated, but now he's more involved because of Ali's link-up play.
"We always look for talents to add to Selangor, but usually the options in the second transfer window are limited, as clubs will be reluctant to let go of their best players, and these players can be costly."
Shahril said Selangor are focused on good governance, and will be careful with their finances.
"We cannot overspend, and at the same time, we need to get results on the pitch. It's tough to balance it, but we try our best," he said.
"We know some clubs have problems paying wages to players. We need to be careful with our finances, and any mistakes can be costly for the club."
The Red Giants will resume their Super League campaign against Kuching City at the MBPJ Stadium today, and they debut in the Asian Champions League 2 against Thai side Muangthong United at the Thunderdome Stadium in Nonthaburi on Sept 19.
