Coaches face 10-30 per cent pay cuts

COACHES in the M-League will likely accept pay cuts of between 10 and 30 per cent from their teams.

Players and coaches have been advised to accept pay cuts as teams are facing financial woes following the suspension of the M-League due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Malaysian Football Coaches Association (MFCA) president B. Satiananthan said no standard pay cut rate should be imposed across the board as coaches do not earn the same amount.

“Following my discussions with some of the M-League coaches, I believe they will accept pay cuts of between 10 and 30 per cent.

“If you impose a standard rate, it would be unfair for those who earn less,” said Satiananthan.

The Selangor coach said coaches are supposed to negotiate directly with their clubs in regard to salary cuts.

“MFCA will only step in if there is a disagreement between our member and his team.

“I’ve heard that some clubs want their coaches to agree to a 50 per cent pay cut,” he added.
