KUALA LUMPUR: Track cycling star Azizulhasni Awang's future with the national team remains uncertain.
The National Sports Council (NSC) stated that the Pocket Rocketman, as Azizulhasni is fondly known, had until Dec 31 to decide on his future.
However, no decision has been announced yet.
It is understood that an update will follow a meeting between Azizulhasni and Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.
"Until today, there is no official confirmation from Azizulhasni on whether he will continue with the Podium Programme," said Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill.
"The NSC has not received anything official from him yet. I'm also aware he will meet the minister, which I hope will happen soon."
Azizulhasni will leave for Umrah on Monday, and Amarjit is uncertain if the meeting will happen before or after his trip.
The cyclist, who turns 37 on Sunday, has previously hinted at retiring from the national team after the Paris Olympics.
However, the MNCF hopes he will reconsider, citing his value to the national squad as a former world keirin champion.
