Five Malaysian pairs crash out in Syed Modi tournament

KUALA LUMPUR: It was the end of the road for Malaysian shuttlers in the Syed Modi International as five pairs crashed out in the quarter-finals in Lucknow today.

Independent player Wong Tien Ci had the disappointment of losing twice in the last eight of the Super 300 event.

Tien Ci and-Lim Chiew Sien lost 21-14, 22-24, 21-16 to China's world No. 345 Liao Pin Yi-Huang Ke Xin in the last eight of the mixed doubles.

And later, Tien Ci was on the losing side again in the men's doubles when he and Lim Tze Jian were beaten 12-21, 21-11, 21-16 by K. Pruthvi-Sai Pratheek of India.

Another men's doubles clash saw world junior champions Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing losing 21-12, 30-2 to Ishaan Batnagar-Shankar Prasad Udayakumar of India.

In a mixed doubles match, world No. 102 Loo Bing Kun-Ho Lo Ee, who had done well on Thursday to upstage top seeds and world No. 33 Sumeeth Reddy-Sikki Reddy of India, fell 21-16, 21-13 to another Indian pair, Dhruv Kapila-Tanish Crasto (No. 66) in the last eight.

Women's doubles Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing, the Malaysia Super 100 champions, also ended their run. The world No. 83 were no match for India's world No. 16 Gayathri Gopichand-Treesa Jolly, losing 21-15, 21-8.
