KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin finally achieved their career best result as they will be making their first semi-final appearance in a Super 750 event at the China Masters in Shenzhen tomorrow.
The world No. 23 played a classy match in the quarter-finals today and secured a 21-10, 21-16 win over world No. 33 Chen Cheng Kuan-Hsu Yin Hui of Taiwan in just 31 minutes.
The milestone in Shenzhen was achieved after Pang Ron-Su Yin's failure to get past the last eight stage at the Hong Kong Open, China Open and Arctic Open and last week's Kumamoto Masters.
The bricks of their hard work were actually laid in the second round on Thursday when they shocked world No. 3 Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin of China (16-21, 21-14, 21-19). Buoyed by that success, Pang Ron-Su Yin dictated the pace from the start to stretch their career record against Cheng Kuan-Yin Hui to 2-0.
Awaiting them in the semi-finals are Hong Kong veterans and world No. 7 Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet.
Chun Man-Ying Suet come with plenty of experience as they are two-time World Championships bronze medallists (2018 and 2021) and were a former world No. 2 in 2018.
However, Pang Ron-Su Yin had beaten the Hong Kong pair in their only meeting at the Macau Open in September and are fired up to secure their first final appearance on the tour.
With compatriots Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei also around in the semi-finals, that means Pang Ron-Su Yin will have another pair to share the mission in Shenzhen.
