KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttler Ng Qi Xuan has appealed to the public to stop sending money to her.
Earlier this week, the former national player turned to crowdfunding on social media to appeal for help after suffering a horrific injury during last week's Malaysia 100 tournament at Juara Stadium.
She dislocated her right knee and screamed in agony when going for a smash during the semi-final, and had to be stretchered off the court.
Qi Xuan later revealed that she needed RM25,000 to RM30,000 for surgery. And the public has responded overwhelmingly, even leading to her bank blocking her bank account as a precautionary measure.
A check on her Instagram page showed that the original post asking for donations has been deleted.
Qi Xuan, 24, has now appealed to the public to stop sending donations. "I believe I have received sufficient funds for the upcoming surgery. Just a heads up, the final cost has not been finalised.
"But it is expected to be approximately RM60,000, which is higher than the amount that the hospital informed me initially.
"I think it is time for me to inform everyone to stop the donations. I deeply appreciate the gesture."
She thanked everyone who supported her physically, mentally, spiritually and financially throughout the past few days.
Yesterday, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh also instructed National Sports Institute chief executive Ahmad Faedzal Ramli to contact Qi Xuan and offer assistance.
Yeoh posted on her X account today that Ahmad Faedzal had discussed treatment options with Qi Xuan's family.
"After carefully assessing their options, they have decided to undergo surgery at their chosen hospital. Qi Xuan has also accepted the offer of doing her rehabilitation at the NSI until she can return to action," Yeoh wrote in her post.
