KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian badminton guru Mulyo Handoyo, who guided Taufik Hidayat to the 2004 Olympic men's singles gold and 2005 world title, could be on BAM's radar.
BAM is looking for a men's singles coach after parting company with Hendrawan after 15 years.
Mulyo had also worked in India in 2017 where he guided Lakshya Sen (Paris Olympics semi-finalist), H.S. Prannoy and K. Srikanth (who won four Super Series titles that year).
The Indonesian resigned from his post in February, 2018, and moved to Singapore that year.
And Singapore's men's singles player, Loh Kean Yew, who was crowned world champion in 2021, attributed his rise to Mulyo.
Mulyo's last appointment was as the singles head of the BA of India's centre of excellence in Guwahati in August last year.
The other name in the frame for the BAM job is Denmark head coach Kenneth Jonassen who has decided not to extend his contract at the end of the year.
Jonassen guided Viktor Axelsen to his first Olympic gold medal in Tokyo in 2021 and also helped the Dane win the 2017 world title.
However, BAM is said to prefer an Asian coach, and Mulyo looks to be a strong candidate.
