World class sparring for Olympics-bound Zii Jia in Singapore

KUALA LUMPUR: Lee Zii Jia is currently training with a world champion and an ex-world champion in Singapore in his bid to win the men's singles gold at the Paris Olympics.

The former All England title holder is in the Lion City for a week-long training camp.

World No 7 Zii Jia has been sparring with Thailand's world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn and Singapore's former world champion Loh Kean Yew.

Yesterday, Kean Yew posted a photo on his Facebook page, showing him with Zii Jia, Kunlavut, and Hong Kong shuttlers Lee Cheuk Yiu and Chan Yin Chak having a meal together.

Kean Yew, Kunlavut and Cheuk Yiu will also be competing in the Paris Games.

"It was a great week, thanks guys. See ya'll in Paris," said Kean Yew in his post.

Meanwhile, on his Team LZJ X account, Zii Jia, 26, recounted the honour of being Malaysia's flag bearer at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

"An unforgettable honour as Malaysia's Flag Bearer at the Tokyo Olympics alongside another great Olympian from Badminton, Rio 2016 Silver Medalist Goh Liu Ying," read the post.

In another post, Zii Jia looked back at his Tokyo Olympic campaign. "A lot to learn from the Olympic debut and another shot at redemption on the biggest stage of them all in 20 days."

At the Tokyo Olympics, Zii Jia was drawn with France's Brice Leverdez and Ukraine's Artem Pochtarov. He won both his matches to top the group but lost to China's Chen Long 8-21, 21-19, 21-5 in the last 16.
