BATU GAJAH: Umno members who were expelled from the party and wish to return must pledge full adherence to the party's constitution.
Perak Umno chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said members who intend to return should avoid causing disruption as Umno is currently in a very stable position.
"I have no issues with their return. Some leaders left the party in the past because they were disappointed at not being selected as candidates. That's why they left.
"Now, if they feel the urge to return to strengthen the party, let them come back. We are open, but with conditions.
"Anyone, whether a new member or a returning one, must understand that Umno has a constitution to adhere to. If they are ready to do that, they are welcome."
Saarani said after attending the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Fishing Competition in Taman Herba here today.
Saarani, who is also Perak menteri besar, said members unwilling to respect or uphold the party constitution should not return and risk causing turmoil in Umno.
When asked whether the return of sacked members, including former Pasir Salak member of parliament Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, would add value to the party, he said this would depend on the contributions of each individual.
"However, there are also cases where disciplinary issues were involved, and, at the time, the party decided to suspend or dismiss them.
"As Zahid (Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) said, anyone who wants to return must first realise and admit that what they did was wrong.
"Secondly, when they are part of this organisation, they must remember that the organisation has a constitution and discipline that must be adhered to," he said.
He added that everyone, from the president down to the grassroots members, is bound by Umno's constitution and party discipline.
"But if they remain in Umno while constantly going against the constitution, please don't cause disruption, because Umno is in a very stable position right now," he said.
Tajuddin was suspended from Umno for six years in October 2022 over his criticism of Zahid.
On Nov 25, Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party has lifted the six-year suspension on Tajuddin effective immediately and the decision was made in accordance with its constitution.
