[UPDATED] Zahid: KJ, Hishammuddin's return to Umno 'possible', if they take Tajuddin's lead

SHAH ALAM: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said there is no reason for the party's Supreme Council to reject the appeals of suspended members who show the same level of commitment as Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman in seeking to lift their suspensions.

He said Tajuddin, who is also former Pasir Salak member of parliament, had submitted four appeals to the party to get his suspension lifted.

"He (Tajuddin) has also personally demonstrated his support for the party, as seen by his presence at the recent Umno General Assembly and the Mahkota by-election.

"Hence, I do not see why the Supreme Council would reject his appeal.

"If other members take similar actions, as demonstrated by Tajuddin, I do not see why they (the council) cannot make the same decision for them (other suspended members)," he told a press conference after the Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) Convention, today.

Zahid, who is also the BN chairman, said this when asked whether Umno has plans to lift the suspensions of other members, including former vice-presiden Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and former information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan.

On Nov 25, Umno lifted the six-year suspension on Tajuddin, with immediate effect.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the decision made in accordance with the party's constitution.

Tajuddin was suspended from the party in 2022, after the 15th General Election (GE15) following frequent criticism made against Zahid as the president. Other members suspended include Hishamuddin and Shahril.

Meanwhile, former Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and former Selangor Umno liasion committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar were sacked from the party.
