GUA MUSANG: A minor commotion broke out between supporters of parties contesting in the Nenggiri state seat by-election near one of the polling centres at SMK Sungai Asap here.
The incident, which took place at 9.50am, prompted Gua Musang district police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo to intervene and disperse the situation.
It is learned that the shouting match began when supporters from both parties allegedly attempted to canvass votes in front of the polling centre which is an area frequented by the public.
The police had asked them to leave, but party supporters ignored and refused to comply with the order. This led to traffic congestion leading up to the polling centre.
The situation was resolved when both groups were asked by the police to return to their respective tents.
A total 20,216 eligible ordinary voters are expected to cast their ballots today for the by-election, which is seeing a straight fight between Barisan Nasional candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani and Perikatan Nasional's Rizwadi Ismail.
