KANGAR: Umno members and supporters are reminded not to fall for the 'Umno-DAP' or 'UmDAP' and 'Umno Tulen' (True Umno) narrative, which is often used by the opposition to undermine loyalty to the party.
This follows the actions of a few former Umno leaders who are now in the opposition leadership, persistently pushing the 'UmDAP' and 'Umno Tulen' sentiments to erode support for Umno and shift members' allegiance to the opposition.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said that the 'UmDAP' and 'Umno Tulen' narratives are merely opposition tactics aimed at causing division in the Malay and Bumiputera party.
"I wish to remind all members, including Umno leaders, not to fall into the 'game' set by the opposition and Umno's adversaries who seek to see the party fractured.
"For example, the opposition's grassroots efforts use the 'game' narrative that Umno has split into two groups, one known as 'UmDAP' and the other as 'Umno Tulen.
"This is a genuine trap set by the opposition, and I urge Umno members to avoid falling into this 'game' as it creates an illusion of division within the party itself," he told reporters today.
Zambry said such narratives give the public the impression that Umno indeed has factions.
"When we categorise sections as 'UmDAP' and others as 'Umno Tulen,' it clearly undermines the institution of this revered party.
"It is crucial to remind ourselves not to succumb to this propaganda because, in the context of Umno, we do not have divisions like Group A or Group B or 'UmDAP' and 'Umno Tulen,' as all are Umno members.
"Every Umno member has their own views because we operate within a democratic platform, and Umno was built on this platform, allowing every member to voice their opinions," he said.
He added that labeling members into specific groups is a detrimental action to the party.
"Labeling Umno members or leaders this way is a detrimental move, so I urge Umno leaders and members to remind ourselves not to fall into the opposition's game.
"This is their usual tactic during elections, and this narrative is what they often push, aiming for Umno members to follow their 'game,'" he added.
