KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional will name their candidate for the Sungai Bakap by-election on June 15.
Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the candidate will be from Pas.
"The incumbent who passed away is a Pas state assemblyman so we will maintain that. The seat is Pas' seat.
"We will announce the candidate on June 15. After that, the candidate will be given the certification (watikah) to contest under Perikatan Nasional," he said after a PN leadership council meeting here today.
He added that they had already established committees for the election both at national and state level adding that their machineries are ready to work for PN's win.
Muhyiddin once again refuted claims that Pas and PN had not been working together for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
"Even though it is a Pas candidate, we will work together diligently as PN in Sungai Bakap.
"Other parties will go on the ground to help. We have Gerakan president and MIPP president here with me and of course will also be there (in Sungai Bakap) as machinery.
"So we will be on the ground to gain support from the voters.
"We hope that all voters in Sungai Bakap will continue to support our Perikatan Nasional candidate," he said.
The Election Commission (EC) fixed July 6 for the Sungai Bakap by-election following the death of assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24.
