KUALA LUMPUR: Disaster was narrowly averted when the rear of a trailer suddenly detached from its prime mover along the perennially busy Jalan Duta, barely missing other vehicles.
The incident was captured on a dashboard camera from a vehicle behind the trailer.
In the video, the trailer is seen travelling on the leftmost lane when it suddenly veered right.
Moments later, the video showed the prime mover stopped in the left lane, with its cargo having detached from the vehicle.
A smaller lorry travelling alongside the vehicle was forced to slam its brakes to avoid colliding into the detached rear of the trailer.
The incident was recorded on Thursday, less than a month since an accident where a container from a lorry toppled and crushed a motorist to death on Nov 13.
Social media users were quick to question the condition of such vehicles and the adequacy of their safety checks.
"It's rare for the head to detach, but once the turntable (attachment device) is damaged, this kind of incident can happen," says social media user Mohd Azaim.
"Did the driver fail to secure the turntable properly?" wrote another user, Mizan.
"This is becoming more common. Was the Swiss lock inspected?" wrote Zai.
