KUALA LUMPUR: Netizens are singing the praises of a woman who cycled for 20 minutes to guide an ambulance to her home to save her child, who was having a seizure.
In a TikTok post by @danialhaikall_ who is believed to be a first responder, he said they had received a call from the hospital and rushed to the given address but could not find the house.
They then called the mother for assistance and asked her to meet them at a landmark.
"After waiting for around 15-20 minutes, we were surprised when the mother arrived, breathless, riding a bicycle. She apologised for being late and then showed us the way to her house," he said.
He added that they had persuaded her to get into the ambulance and let him take the bicycle, but she refused, saying, "It's okay, I can ride".
"So, we followed her. The house was quite far and located deep within an oil palm plantation.
"Sitting in the ambulance, I felt emotional watching this mother pedal through the darkness for her sick child," he said.
Netizens called her the epitome of a mother's boundless love.
User Noriza Abu Hashim said: "This is the struggle of a mother. No matter the hardship, it is endured for the sake of her children."
Meanwhile, user Ibu Faeeq said mothers would do anything for their children.
"The fear of cycling in the dark disappeared because all she could think about was her sick child waiting at home," she said.
User Ha-na shared a similar experience of her mother, who would cycle to take her and three other siblings to their grandmother's house, even just before her due date for her fourth child.
"I remember when my fourth sibling was about to be born, my mother was already in labour but she still cycled us little ones to our grandmother's house, a distance of about 2km. My mother was truly amazing," she said.
Another user, PnJunMan, said she cried after watching the video as she remembered the time when her mother carried her at 2am to the nearest health clinic as she was sick.
"I see this and automatically start crying because it reminds me of when my mother and sister carried me at 2am, walking from Alor Jawi to Kota Kuala Muda health clinic, because I was vomiting until I was weak."
