KUALA LUMPUR: A video of a wheelchair-bound man's resilience in trying to make a living has touched the hearts of netizens.
In a TikTok video uploaded by @kakiiibesiii, the man can be seen catching a breath while hauling a load of recyclable items in the bicycle lane in front of the Mara building, here.
When asked, the man said that he was heading back to Chow Kit after going around town to collect the items.
Despite being offered a helping hand by the good Samaritan, the man can be seen politely rejecting, saying that he is used to it.
"Eh, it's okay. I'm used to it. This is my routine to go around, twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.
"I will then sell this (pointing to the load of recyclable items), the next day," he said in high spirits.
Accompanying the post @kakiiibesiii, wished that the power of social media can be leveraged to help the man.
"Ya Allah, pity this uncle. We don't know him... it's just that we stumbled upon him in front of Mara KL.
"We can't afford to help much, but we're hoping the power of going viral will get Malaysians to help this uncle.
"We hope that those who can afford to help will ease the burdens of this uncle and his family," he wrote.
The post has since received over 29,000 likes and more than 300 comments, with some netizens expressing their sympathies and others offering assistance.
User @adrianalove921 commented, urging Malaysians to raise funds to help the man.
"Come on, Malaysian netizens, let's all gather funds for this uncle... to help make it easier for him to get around," she wrote.
This was echoed by @Dnny_z: "Allah, it breaks my heart to see this... If anyone can afford it, please provide an electric wheelchair for this uncle to make things easier for him."
Meanwhile, user @zeesensei shared his own encounter with the man.
"I just met this uncle during Aidiladha prayers at the mosque in Kampung Baru recently. He's a kind person and brought a few prayer mats to share with other worshippers."
