KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) has questioned several individuals suspected of being involved in placing live cats into sacks at an apartment in Batu 9 Cheras, Kajang, and has seized a car in connection with the incident.
Initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred during a community clean-up programme organised with the building's management (JMB), between 9am and 3pm last Saturday.
According to DVS Selangor, the suspects were questioned under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and the case is being investigated under Subsection 29(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 [Act 772].
"DVS Selangor's team also seized a Nissan Sentra sedan, several sacks, and cages believed to have been used to transport the cats, as shown in a viral video," it said in a statement Monday. The investigation report will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office in Selangor once completed for further instructions.
On Sunday, a 37-second video went viral on social media, showing a group of men capturing several cats at the Batu 9 Cheras apartment and placing them into sacks. The video also showed the sacks being loaded into a car, presumably to be disposed of elsewhere.
Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof, confirmed that the police had received information about the viral video, with two police reports filed regarding the incident.
