KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will introduce a combination of train, bus, and van services to increase commuter frequency to every 30 minutes starting Jan 20.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the initiative aims to enhance the commuter experience while accommodating the ongoing Klang Valley Double Track (KVDT2) project, which limits train frequency from Port Klang to KL Sentral to every 60 minutes.
Under the new strategy, trains will run every 30 minutes during morning peak hours from Port Klang to KL Sentral and during evening peak hours in the opposite direction. Outside peak hours, buses will operate every 30 minutes in both directions.
"This is a two-pronged strategy. It not only improves operations but also allows the KVDT2 project to proceed during non-operational hours," Loke said at a press conference.
He explained that during off-peak hours, from 10am to 4pm, project works can continue efficiently and safely for six hours daily.
The plan also includes deploying 22 buses, starting Jan 17, to provide free services along key stations, including Subang Jaya, Batu Tiga, Shah Alam, Padang Jawa, Bukit Badak, Klang, Teluk Gadong, and Pelabuhan Klang.
For Bukit Badak and Teluk Gadong stations, van services will be offered due to lower passenger numbers.
Additionally, Loke said that commuters travelling between KTM Abdullah Hukum station and Subang Jaya can use existing bus services and the Kelana Jaya LRT line.
The KVDT2 project, launched in April last year following the completion of KVDT1, is scheduled for completion by October 2028. The project spans from Simpang Port Klang to Port Klang, impacting the Batu Caves–Pulau Sebang and Tanjung Malim–Pelabuhan Klang lines.
