BANGI: All Umno organisers of a solidarity rally, which was planned in support of imprisoned former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, have been advised not to participate in the event tomorrow.
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said while attending the rally was a personal decision, it came with risks as the police have rejected the permit application to hold the event.
Zahid said party members must comply with the guidance provided by the party and avoid any official involvement.
"The directive issued by the party secretary-general aligns with instructions from the inspector-general of police, emphasising safety and security concerns.
"We hope there will be no official participation by organisers from (Umno) divisions or branches in this rally.
"Any attendance is entirely at the individual's own risk," he said in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia here.
Previously, it was reported that the rally, initially planned for tomorrow, was rejected by the police due to an incomplete application from the organisers.
Meanwhile, Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said he would attend the rally at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya tomorrow.
However, the Merlimau assemblyman said was attending in his personal capacity.
When asked on whether action would be taken against party members attending the rally, Zahid responded cryptically: "That is the risk the individual must bear", leaving his stance open to interpretation.
