KUCHING: In his New Year's message, Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg expressed his delight that the state has successfully implemented many projects under the five-year 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
He highlighted infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, electricity supply, water supply, and socio-economic projects, including the development of small and medium industries (SMEs) and social security programmes, as part of the 12MP.
"I sincerely hope that efforts to implement the 12MP projects in Sarawak will be intensified next year so that all the listed projects can be successfully completed for the benefit of the people, especially the physical projects," the premier said, adding that 2025 will be the final year of the 12MP implementation.
He added that the New Year is an opportunity for all Malaysians in Sarawak to step forward with new enthusiasm, stronger determination, and greater ambitions for the progress of the state.
"We are proud of the achievements we have accomplished together over the past year, the result of cooperation, unity, and persistent efforts from all levels of society," he said.
The premier affirmed that the state will continue its determination to develop Sarawak into a prosperous, peaceful, and inclusive state.
"With various development initiatives that are being and will be implemented, I am confident that Sarawak will be able to develop through sustainable policies," Abang Johari said.
He said that the state government will conduct a mid-term review of the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) to assess the success of the programmes and projects.
He expressed confidence that all infrastructure projects, water supply projects, programmes to upgrade internet connectivity, and social welfare programmes funded by the Sarawak government will continue successfully by 2030.
He added that high-impact projects are also being planned, including a new deep-sea port and an international airport in Kuching, and that the modern agricultural sector will also be driven by the use of technology.
The premier said that the year 2025 will also be the year of preparation for the government to provide free education at the tertiary level, which will be implemented in 2026.
He called on the people to work together with the state government to ensure that every Sarawakian enjoys the benefits of development regardless of background, religion, or race.
"The spirit of unity that we have cultivated over the years will be the pillar of our strength to face challenges and achieve success," he said.
