JOHOR BARU: MCA has sacked its Sembrong Youth chief after his defection to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong confirmed that Eugene Lim Yew Chin would also be stripped of his role as a Kluang Municipal Council (MPK) member, citing betrayal.
"I confirm that Lim has been dismissed from MCA. His position as a municipal council member will also be revoked," Wee said when contacted.
Yesterday, MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon urged the Johor state government to remove Lim from his council post after his defection to Bersatu.
Chong claimed that Lim had joined Bersatu without informing the party and was subsequently seen photographed wearing a Bersatu T-shirt, next to Bersatu's non-Malay wing chief, Dr Chong Fatt Full, as he submitted his membership application.
MCA Youth chief Ling Tian Soon, who is also the Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman, expressed disappointment over Lim's defection.
He confirmed that he received official correspondence from the MCA central leadership on Lim's dismissal and a directive to remove him from MPK.
"This issue will be brought to the state executive council meeting next week for immediate action," Ling said.
Ling, who will table the matter at the council meeting, said that there had been no internal party conflict to justify Lim's decision to switch parties.
He also confirmed that Lim's deputy would now serve as the acting Sembrong Youth chief.
