KUALA LUMPUR: An elderly woman who sustained severe head injuries after a snatch theft involving a motorcyclist in Bangsar in October has died.
Bangsar Park Residents' Association president Datuk Nitesh Malani confirmed that Lim Foong Mei, 78, passed away today.
Speaking to the New Straits Times (NST), Nitesh said Lim had been living alone at the time of the incident. She was then placed in a care home in Bangsar after being discharged from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), he said.
On Oct 7, Lim was a victim of a snatch theft involving a motorcyclist while walking to a neighbourhood shop along Jalan Limau Manis at 6.30am.
Based on CCTV footage, a motorcyclist had snatched her handbag, causing her to fall heavily onto the road, where she remained motionless for several minutes until passersby came to her aid.
Lim was rushed to UMMC, where she was found to have suffered head injuries, including severe bleeding, and placed under medical observation.
Following the incident, Nitesh added that a police report was lodged and the suspect was arrested within 48 hours.
"(However,) there have been no updates so far (regarding the incident)," he said.
The NST has reached out to the police for further comments on the incident.
