KULIM: A tragic accident claimed the lives of a father and his eight-year-old son when their motorcycle collided with a car on Jalan Kenari 3, Taman Kenari, yesterday.
In the incident, A. Vinot, 36, a factory van driver, succumbed to head injuries while being transported to Kulim Hospital.
His son, V. Naviness, a Year Two pupil, died at the scene from severe head and facial injuries.
Kulim district police chief Superintendent Zulkifli Azizan said police received a call about the accident at 5.20pm.
"Initial investigations revealed the accident occurred at approximately 5.07pm when a 32-year-old woman driving a car lost control of her vehicle and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the Yamaha 135 LC motorcycle ridden by the father and son.
"The motorcyclist's son sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene."
Meanwhile, the father succumbed to his injuries en route to Kulim Hospital, he said.
The driver, a food stall operator living in the same neighbourhood, escaped unhurt.
"An initial urine test showed the driver was not under the influence of drugs," Zulkifli said.
The car involved in the accident belongs to the woman's husband.
The victims' remains were sent to the Kulim Hospital Forensic Unit for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
