Minor earthquake in Ranau, no casualties reported   

 

KOTA KINABALU: A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 2.8 struck Ranau at 2.56pm today, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said.

According to MetMalaysia, the epicentre of the earthquake was located at 5.97° North and 116.57° East, approximately 318km north of Tarakan, Indonesia, and 15km west of Ranau.

The department said the earthquake had a depth of 10km and caused tremors to be felt in Ranau and its surrounding areas.

The Ranau Fire and Rescue Department conducted patrols and inspections of high-rise buildings, including the federal government's buildings, the Ranau District Office, and school buildings, among others.

No casualties or property damage were reported.

"The operation, involving two personnel and one fire rescue vehicle (FRV-1), concluded at 4.30pm."
