IGP: No reports filed against Dr Mahathir over Batu Puteh dispute

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have not received any reports regarding former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in connection with the Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks, and South Ledge issue.

This was confirmed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

Razarudin said this when asked whether the police had received any reports from the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) regarding Dr Mahathir's involvement in the decisions related to Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks, and South Ledge.

"No reports have been received (against the former prime minister on the matter)," he said, speaking to reporters after the launch of the police book titled Royal Malaysia Police: History of Establishment, Sacrifices and Successes in Preserving National Peace, which was attended by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

On Dec 5, the RCI on Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks, and South Ledge recommended that a criminal investigation be initiated against Dr Mahathir.

The recommendation was included in the 271-page declassified report presented to Parliament.

According to the RCI, Dr Mahathir could face criminal charges under Section 415(b) of the Penal Code, which could lead to penalties under Section 417 and Section 418 of the same code.

The RCI also proposed that the commission's secretary file a police report to enable the investigation to proceed.

Earlier today, Dr Mahathir denied claims that the decision to withdraw Malaysia's application to review the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling on Batu Puteh was made unilaterally.

He maintained that it was a collective decision, with members of his cabinet from the then-Pakatan Harapan administration present during the discussion.

He said that none of them raised objections or commented on the move.
