PUTRAJAYA: Unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil revealed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had apologised after venting his frustration over the delays in two key national digital initiatives.
Fahmi said Anwar had apologised to Cabinet today, following his actions of venting his anger during the National Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution Council (MED4IRN) meeting.
Fahmi said Anwar was very frustrated over the slow progress of the MyDigital ID and the dual 5G network projects, which he believed should have been completed within two years.
Anwar had previously voiced his dissatisfaction at the Finance Ministry's monthly assembly, reiterating his concerns about the lack of progress.
Among the Cabinet ministers present at Wednesday's meeting were Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, and Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
The MyDigital ID registration system has faced significant disruptions, with delays frustrating Malaysians, especially since it is necessary to access the MyJPJ app.
Meanwhile, the dual 5G network rollout remains a key focus of government efforts, aimed at enhancing coverage, promoting competition in the telecommunications sector, and ensuring affordable, high-quality services.
In June, the government reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the 5G dual-network model to improve services for the public.
