Significant drop in number of flood victims nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims nationwide continued to decrease today.

As of 4.55pm today, the number of people still at temporary relief centres (PPS) nationwide stood at 58,192 from 17,980 families.

This represented a drop of almost 50 per cent from the 112,692 victims from 35,123 families reported at 5.40pm yesterday.

According to the Welfare Department's Info Bencana portal, the number of temporary relief centres has also dropped to 203 from 474.

Kelantan continued to be the worst-hit state, with 39,377 people seeking shelter in 93 active relief centres.

In Terengganu, 11,428 victims are housed in 51 shelters while in Kedah, 5,908 individuals have been displaced and are seeking shelter at 28 PPS.

Meanwhile, Johor recorded 1,032 evacuees across 18 shelters.

Melaka and Perak have fewer victims, with 168 and 214 evacuees in two and six PPS, respectively.

Pahang also reported 65 flood victims currently accommodated in five shelters.
