TUMPAT: A total of 37 teachers, who are also exam invigilators, had to ride a fire truck to collect the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Oral Exam papers from the holding room at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tumpat yesterday.
They were transported in a 5-tonne fire truck due to several routes leading to the school still being flooded to a level that prevented light vehicles, including four-wheel drives, from passing.
Wakaf Bharu Fire and Rescue station chief Nazah Nafi said all the teachers gathered at Kampung Terbak before they were taken through the floodwaters.
"A total of three firemen were involved in the operation to transport the teachers to collect the exam papers from SMK Tumpat before the papers were distributed to SMK Geting and SM Ugama (Arab) Meheliah Geting," he said when contacted yesterday.
Nazah explained that several routes in Pengkalan Kubor remained flooded, making them impassable for light vehicles, including four-wheel drives.
He added that for operations around Wakaf Bharu, evacuation efforts were no longer needed as the water level had begun to recede, but many areas remained submerged.
However, he said that the team's tasks continued as usual, including transporting SPM candidates to their schools.
"Additionally, monitoring in high-risk areas continues, and we are advising residents to remain cautious given the current flood situation," he added.
