ALOR STAR: The number of evacuees in Kedah has risen overnight, with more than 8,700 people displaced due to floods.
According to an update from the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, the total number of evacuees in Kedah has reached 8,754, up from 8,575 at midnight.
All evacuees are taking shelter in 53 temporary flood relief centres (PPS) in the seven districts.
Kota Setar is the hardest-hit district, with 2,953 evacuees from 879 families now housed at 13 PPS, an increase from 2,851 reported at midnight.
In Kubang Pasu, 2,825 evacuees from 902 families are taking refuge in 16 PPS, while Padang Terap has 1,082 people from 304 families staying at nine PPS.
Sik is the fourth most affected district, with 1,075 people from 342 families sheltered in eight PPS. In Pokok Sena, 604 people from 182 families are at four PPS.
Kuala Muda has 182 people from 52 families relocated to two PPS, while Baling has 35 people from 10 families sheltered in a single PPS.
