ALOR STAR: Four roads in Kota Setar and 13 roads in Kubang Pasu have been temporarily closed to all vehicles due to floods in Kedah.
Kota Setar acting police chief Superintendent Syed Basri Syed Ali said four stretches in the district had been closed after they were submerged by floodwaters.
The roads are:
1. Jalan Lengkuas/ Kampung Derang/ Batu 11 Jalan Pokok Sena
2. Jalan Gunung Keriang
3. Jalan Bukit Pinang in Lengkuas (for heavy vehicles only)
4. Bukit Pinang tunnel
Syed Basri said stretches partially closed were Jalan Kepala Batas in Hutan Kampung (for light and heavy vehicles) and Lebuhraya Darulaman (from Alor Star).
In Kubang Pasu, district chief Superintendent Mohd Redzuan Salleh said 13 roads had been closed to all vehicles due to the flooding.
The roads are:
1. Jalan Kampung Kubang Betong towards Kampung Kangar
2. Jalan Jitra towards Bukit Wang
3. Jalan Tanah Merah towards Wang Tepus
4. Jalan Titi Besi towards Kampung Pasir
5. Jalan Kampung Bata towards Kampung Kota Giam
6. Jalan Kelubi Luar towards Kampung Malau
7. Jalan Jitra towards Kampung Kelubi (tunnel)
8. Jalan Kepala Batas towards Bukit Tinggil/ Kampung Lembah
9. Jalan Batu 9 Jitra towards Alor Rambai/ Kepala Batu
10. Jalan Asun towards Binjal/ Kampung Telok (heavy vehicles only)
11. Km32.1 to Km33.2 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) southbound (diverted to Bandar Darulaman exit); Km33.2 to Km 32.1 of the NSE northbound (diverted to Alor Star Utara exit)
12. Kepala Batas traffic light intersection towards NSE entrance
13. Taman Jalai Jaya towards Kepala Batas traffic light intersection (one lane only)
Redzuan said four roads that were closed yesterday have since been reopened to all vehicles.
They are:
1. Jalan Kampung Natoi towards Kampung Lembah/Kampung Bendang Dalam
2. Jalan Pusat Pembiakan Ikan Jitra
3. Jalan Kepala Batas towards Titi Besi
4. Jalan Jitra towards Sungai Korok
He advised motorists against wading through strong currents.
