JOHOR BARU: Johor Youth Scholarship's recipient, M. Laxmann, made history by earning the prestigious 'Top in the World' award in the A-Level Cambridge examinations.
The Cambridge Assessment International Education honours the 'Top in the World' awards to students who score the highest mark in the world for a single Cambridge A-Level subject.
Laxmann, a former student of Johor English College or Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar, achieved an extraordinary 100 per cent score in Mathematics, and remarkable grades in other subjects, namely 97 per cent in Chemistry and 93 per cent in Physics.
Laxmann, who is currently pursuing his education at Kolej Yayasan UEM, aspires to pursue a degree in chemical engineering at Imperial College London, one of the world's leading universities.
Two other recipients of the scholarship also recorded stellar performances in their A-Level examinations.
Muhammad Fauzi Syahmi earned an impressive AAAA in Mathematics, Chemistry, Economics, and Physics, while Lee Chong Ming secured A*AA in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics.
The Johor Youth Scholarship programme was launched in 2023 by the Johor Education Foundation (Yayasan Pelajaran Johor).
State Education and Information Committee chairman, Aznan Tamin, said the scholarships were offered to talented Johoreans to pursue their dreams of furthering their education.
"It reflects the state government's commitment to nurturing world-class talent and fostering global competitiveness among Johor's youth."
He said the students' outstanding achievements in pursuing excellence align with the Maju Johor 2030 vision.
He added that it would also inspire students to follow in the boys' footsteps, as the government elevates Johor's standing on the global stage.
The teenagers also had the opportunity to share their aspirations with Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi at his official residence in Saujana when they received their scholarships.
