PUTRAJAYA: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar urges civil servants to cultivate pride in their service to the public.
Through a sense of pride, he said, civil servants could deliver the best service to the people.
"If we are not proud of our work, how can we give the best service?
"We must be proud of our work and take pride in our service."
He said this after officiating the Malaysia Madani national seminar here today.
He said this pride must be grounded in values, with civil servants honouring their roles by offering service with integrity and dedication.
"Don't be ashamed to wear a government uniform.
"If you have a JPA (Public Service Department) uniform, then keep it.
"If you get a JPJ (Road Transport Department) uniform, also keep it.
"As for me, if I receive a government agency uniform, I will start wearing it."
More than 1,000 people attended the event, including civil servants, secretaries-general of ministries and directors-general of agencies.
The seminar aimed to foster an understanding among the civil service of the important role they play in nation building.
In his speech, Shamsul reminded civil servants that their duty was to serve all citizens, regardless of their backgrounds.
"This is a manifestation of the principles of justice and equality enshrined in the Constitution.
"Our commitment to the nation and the monarchy should be demonstrated by upholding these values."
He said more than 250,000 civil servants have completed the Malaysia Madani training module under Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia or the National Institute of Public Administration.
He said the aim was to train 750,000 civil servants by 2026 and 1.4 million by 2030.
