KUALA LUMPUR: The federal government has no immediate plans to implement the four-and-a-half-day work week arrangement, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said.
The government will first review the proposal announced by the Johor state government for its implementation at the state level, he added.
"That is a policy decision by the Johor government, and since it is their decision, we (at the federal level) will review the proposal first.
"At the moment, the federal government has no plans to introduce the four-and-a-half-day workweek.
"As such, I cannot comment on its impact on work productivity because we have yet to see its implementation, as it has only been announced," he said when met by reporters after the closing ceremony of the National Public Service Reform convention today.
Shamsul Azri said this when asked to comment on the proposal put forth by the Johor state government.
Last Thursday, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced that the state is studying a four-and-a-half-day work week for the public sector, following the move to revert state weekend holidays to Saturday and Sunday starting Jan 1, 2025.
