KUALA LUMPUR: The public flocked to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today to attend the Madani government's second anniversary event, despite it being a Friday.
Even on its first day, the programme has drawn encouraging response with thousands in attendance at KLCC since 7.30am.
Themed "Madani di Hati, Rakyat Disantuni", the programme will run from 9am to 6pm, offering the public a variety of services from ministries, agencies and government departments.
In addition to service exhibitions by participating ministries, the event will feature numerous activities and attractive offers, including entrepreneur booths and the Madani Rahmah Sale.
Speaking to the New Straits Times, Siti Zulaikha Asrul Faisal, 19, a student, said she joined her mother for the event, which is part of a programme organised by the National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund.
Zulaikha, who was attending for the first time, expressed her excitement over the numerous booths and the abundance of free gifts available.
"It is a great experience and I really enjoyed checking out the variety of booths," she said.
Arriving at 9am, the student said she drove to the KLCC. She added that except for a slight traffic jam on the way to the venue, everything went smoothly.
Mohamed Naguib Adnan, a 64-year-old former soldier, said he had been looking forward to attending the event, particularly for the 60 per cent discount on his traffic summons.
"I had just one summons, which was originally RM300, but after the discount, I only had to pay RM120. I arrived by motorcycle at 9am and waited for about an hour to settle my summons. Overall, the service was quick and efficient," he said.
On Nov 9, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the spokesperson for the unity government, said the organisers targeted more than 230,000 visitors to attend the event, given its strategic location.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to officiate the programme at 11 am on Nov 23.
