Eleven-year-old dies in multi-vehicle crash in Kuala Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: An 11-year-old child was killed in an accident involving four vehicles near Jalan Kampung Panchur Kuin, Batu Rakit, earlier this morning.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said police received a report about the incident at 9am.

He said that the child was in a Perodua Aruz, which was involved in a collision with three vehicles, a Proton Wira, a Honda Jazz and a Mitsubishi lorry.

Azli said initial investigations revealed that the Perodua Aruz and Honda Jazz were travelling from Kampung Titian Baru towards Kota Baru, while the Proton Wira was heading from Dungun towards Besut.

Meanwhile, the lorry was on its way from Perak towards Kuala Terengganu city centre.

"The Proton Wira lost control and collided with the oncoming lorry, which then skidded and struck the Perodua Aruz and Honda Jazz.

"Due to the accident, an 11-year-old child (identity yet to be confirmed) was pronounced dead at the scene," he said.

He added that all drivers and passengers in the Perodua Aruz, along with the two occupants of the lorry, were taken to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) for treatment.

"The five individuals in the Honda Jazz, as well as the three occupants of the Proton Wira were uninjured.

"Meanwhile, a post-mortem will be conducted on the victim's body before it is handed over to the family," he said.

Azli added that the Perodua Aruz sustained extensive damage to the front and right side, while all three other vehicles sustained damage to the front.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
