GEORGE TOWN: Construction of the Juru-Sungai Dua Elevated Highway is expected to begin next year.
Taking to his Facebook page, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the project is expected to be completed in 2029.
He said Works Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Azman Ibrahim had presented the concept proposal to the Penang state executive council today.
"Good news! The Juru-Sungai Dua traffic dispersal project will start in 2025 and is expected to be completed in 2029.
"We want to record our appreciation to the prime minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) and the federal government for approving this RM3 billion project in Penang," he said.
When tabling the 2025 Budget, Anwar had announced the implementation of the Juru-Sungai Dua Elevated Highway project.
The Juru-Sungai Dua Elevated Highway project was one of the main items in Penang's "wish list" to Putrajaya in the 2025 Budget.
Anwar also announced a new Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Seberang Prai.
The state had hoped that the federal government would seriously consider its requests as the elevated highway project was crucial to address persistent traffic woes in the area.
Chow, in welcoming the announcement of the project during the tabling of the 2025 Budget, expressed hope that its implementation could be expedited due to its urgent necessity.
